Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated General Sales Manager to lead and manage our dynamic sales team at Diamond Buick GMC. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in automotive sales, a passion for customer service, and a proven ability to drive revenue growth and achieve sales targets. This individual will oversee all aspects of the sales department, including personnel management, sales strategy, inventory control, and customer relationship management, while fostering a positive, high-performance culture within the team.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & Team Management
- Team Leadership: Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing sales team. This includes recruiting, hiring, training, mentoring, and holding sales staff accountable for their individual and team goals.
- Performance Management: Set clear sales targets for each sales associate, monitor their progress, and provide consistent coaching and feedback to help them improve.
- Sales Training: Ensure that all sales personnel are trained on product knowledge, sales techniques, and dealership processes to stay ahead of industry trends and customer expectations. Organize regular training sessions on sales strategies, customer service, and effective communication.
- Scheduling: Create and manage sales staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage during peak business hours while promoting work-life balance.
- Motivation & Incentives: Develop incentive programs to drive performance and maintain a competitive, positive sales environment. Recognize top performers through awards, recognition programs, and career development opportunities.
2. Sales Strategy & Target Achievement
- Sales Goals & Planning: Develop and implement actionable sales strategies to achieve dealership objectives. This includes setting monthly, quarterly, and annual sales goals for the team and working closely with senior management to adjust strategies as needed.
- Market Analysis: Continuously analyze market trends, local competition, and customer behavior to develop targeted sales approaches and promotional strategies.
- Sales Forecasting: Regularly analyze sales data, track performance metrics, and adjust sales strategies accordingly to ensure revenue and profit goals are met. Present sales forecasts and action plans to senior management.
- Lead Management: Oversee the handling of all incoming leads, ensuring timely and effective follow-up, and ensuring that leads are converted into opportunities. Evaluate and optimize lead management processes to improve conversion rates.
3. Customer Experience & Relationship Management
- Customer Satisfaction: Ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction by consistently monitoring sales processes and providing personalized experiences. Establish a culture of customer-first thinking and ensure that all sales staff understand and follow best practices in customer service.
- Customer Retention: Build strong relationships with clients and create loyalty programs that drive repeat business, referrals, and customer retention. Engage in follow-up communication post-sale to ensure customer satisfaction and build long-term relationships.
- Escalated Issues: Personally handle complex or escalated customer issues, complaints, and concerns, ensuring that they are resolved in a professional and timely manner. Strive to turn any negative experience into a positive one.
4. Sales Process & Performance Optimization
- Sales Process Oversight: Ensure that the dealership's sales process is efficient, effective, and aligned with industry best practices. Regularly audit the sales process to identify bottlenecks or inefficiencies.
- Negotiation & Closing: Supervise and support the sales team in negotiating deals, pricing, trade-in values, and financing options. Ensure that all deals are closed in compliance with dealership policies and regulatory requirements.
- CRM Utilization: Ensure that the dealership's customer relationship management (CRM) software is utilized effectively to track customer interactions, maintain up-to-date records, and drive follow-up opportunities.
- Sales Reporting: Maintain accurate and detailed records of all sales activities. Prepare and review regular sales reports for senior management, highlighting key performance metrics, trends, and areas for improvement.
5. Inventory Management & Vehicle Procurement
- Inventory Control: Collaborate with the inventory manager and purchasing team to ensure that the dealership’s vehicle inventory aligns with customer demand. Monitor the turnover of vehicles and help maintain optimal stock levels.
- Pricing Strategy: Work with the pricing team to ensure that vehicles are competitively priced based on market conditions and customer demand while maintaining profitability.
- Vehicle Ordering: Help manage the ordering process for new vehicles, ensuring that the dealership always has a diverse selection of cars that appeal to various customer segments.
- Used Car Strategy: Oversee the used car inventory, ensuring that used vehicles are properly priced, well-maintained, and marketed effectively to customers. Develop strategies to acquire quality pre-owned vehicles and ensure they are reconditioned for resale.
6. Reporting, Analysis, and Forecasting
- Performance Monitoring: Track key sales metrics, including lead conversion rates, sales volumes, gross profit, and customer satisfaction levels. Provide regular performance reports to senior management.
- Sales Forecasting: Develop accurate sales forecasts based on historical performance data, market trends, and seasonal fluctuations. Adjust forecasts as needed and ensure the team is aligned with expectations.
- Financial Management: Work with the finance team to ensure that financing deals are structured to maximize profitability while meeting customer needs. Ensure that all sales transactions comply with dealership financial policies and legal regulations.
- Operational Efficiency: Monitor sales department efficiency, identify areas for improvement, and implement new processes or tools to optimize sales activities.
7. Collaboration with Other Departments
- Cross-Departmental Coordination: Work closely with the service, parts, and finance departments to ensure a seamless customer experience. Collaborate with marketing to create promotions that support sales goals and increase foot traffic.
- Marketing Alignment: Coordinate with the marketing team to plan and execute targeted campaigns, advertisements, and promotions designed to generate leads and drive sales.
Qualifications
- Experience: At least 5 years of automotive sales experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a sales management role.
- Leadership Skills: Strong leadership qualities, with the ability to lead by example and inspire a team.
- Sales Expertise: Deep knowledge of the automotive sales process, including finance and leasing options, trade-in appraisals, and vehicle negotiations.
- Customer-Focused: A commitment to providing excellent customer service and ensuring an exceptional customer experience at every touchpoint.
- Analytical Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to managing and improving sales performance.
- Technological Proficiency: Familiarity with dealership management system proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
- Strong Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact with customers, staff, and senior management.
- Valid Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field.
- Experience in a high-volume dealership environment.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: Competitive base salary plus commission and performance-based incentives. Range $80,000.00-$140,000.00.
